Step 3: Adding narrower terms

Now we can continue thesaurus construction by adding narrower terms of the root terms recursively:

  1. Select the term "Oceania" and then click on the ‘Add Narrower Term’ button. A new term is added under "Oceania" as the narrower term of it.

  2. Edit the label of the new term to "Australia".

  3. Repeat the previous activities to add "Fiji" and "New Zealand" as the other narrower terms of "Oceania".

  4. Click on the "Australia" to select it. Then click on ‘Add Narrower Term’ button.

  5. Edit the label of the new term to "Adelaide".

  6. Repeat items 4 and 5 to add "Canberra", "Melbourne" and "Sydney" as the other narrower terms of the "Australia".

  7. Similarly, add the terms "Wellington", "Blenheim", "Nadi" and "Port Chalmers" under "New Zealand"; and add the terms "Matuku" and "Suva" as the narrower terms of "Fiji".

  8. Oh, as you can see, we added the city "Nadi" in a wrong place. "Nadi" is a city of "Fiji". To correct this, simply drag "Nadi" and drop it on "Fiji". Every things are now OK.

  9. Define Relationships between the terms. (Step 4)
